General
What types of tiles are available?
A comprehensive, ever developing, range including Clip-In, Tegular, Beam
Grid as well as bespoke solutions for individual projects.
Does Burgess operate a quality registered manufacturing
process?
Yes, Burgess is BS EN ISO: 9002 registered. This is regularly audited
by the British Standards Institute.
To what standard are Burgess' products manufactured?
As standard to BS 8290 Part 2, but special requirements can be accommodated
on request.
Can you offer a supply and installation service/price?
No, Burgess are manufacturers and suppliers of ceiling systems only and
do not install ceilings.
Where can I buy your products from?
Direct from us or through an extensive list of approved distributors that
operate throughout the UK, Northern Ireland and Eire
What tile sizes are available?
A large range of popular sizes are held in stock, but further information
on stock sizes is available from our Sales Department.
What thickness of steel is used?
From 0.4mm to 1.2mm, each application is assessed and suitable material
selected from stock.
How much do the systems weigh?
Approximate system weights, with primary suspension and standard insulation:
Clip-In - 9.0 kg/m²
Tegular - 7.5 kg/m²
What is the product life-cycle?
Provided they are installed, used and maintained in accordance with our
recommendations the ceiling can be expected to remain serviceable for
30 years.
Can the tiles be cleaned?
Yes, cleaning advice is available in our Specifier's Guide,
How can I receive COSHH information?
COSHH details are available from our Technical Advisory Department.
Where can I receive installation advice?
Installation guidance is available through our web site for most system
types.
Export
Does Burgess operate overseas?
Yes, contact our Export Department.
Suspension
Do you supply support grids and trims?
Yes, a full range of suspension systems is available together with various
perimeter trim options.
What are the fixing centres?
For the Clip-In system, the suspension channels and hangers are at 1500mm
maximum centres. For other systems please refer to technical brochures.
What is the overall depth of the tile, spring
tee and suspension channel?
83mm with bevelled edge tiles or 76mm with square edge tiles, but due
consideration for levelling on top of this should be allowed.
Can wire hangers be used?
We generally recommend the use of rigid galvanised angle hangers. However,
wire hangers can be used to support our Tegular system under certain conditions.

Perimeter
What trims are available?
Depending upon the ceiling system, channels, angles and a variety of aluminium
extrusions painted to match the ceiling panels.
What is the best perimeter detail for a Tegular
Tile ceiling?
Flat lay-in tiles in place of Tegular tiles at all perimeters, finished
into channel trim.
Colours
What is the standard colour and what others
are available?
Tiles painted white to RAL9010 and BS00E55 are held in stock. We can also
supply tiles painted to most colours from the RAL and British Standard
ranges.
What gloss levels are available?
The most popular gloss level is 12%, although 5% and 20% are available
in some ranges.
Perforation
What perforation patterns are available?
Six standard patterns are available, with square and diagonal patterns,
open areas ranging from 14% to 46.5% and the options of plain borders.

Fire
Does the Burgess tile system have a 1 hour fire
rating?
Yes. The Clip-In H4 system has been successfully tested in accordance
with BS 476 Part 8 and also has a Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame classification
as well as being rated a Class O ceiling surface.
Our Tegular system has been assessed to ½
hour integrity. Please consult our Technical Advisory Department for further
details.
Can I receive copies of the fire test certificates.
Test summaries and conclusions are available upon request. Full test reports
are not freely distributed due to their commercial sensitivity.
Sound
Can the Burgess tile system provide enhanced
levels of Noise Reduction?
Yes. Test results show that a perforated tile with integral high density,
insulation can achieve a normalised level reduction up to 43dB.
What levels of Sound Absorption can be obtained?
Test results show an average NRC of between 0.65 to 0.96 is achievable
depending upon the choice of insulation in the tile and perforation pattern
used.
What standard insulation options are available?
Standard mineral wool insulation is sized to match the tile, 25mm thick,
45kg/M3 density and encased in aluminium foil with black tissue face or
in black polythene. We can also offer a 15mm thick high density acoustic
infill for higher attenuation figures.
Lights
Do light fittings integrate with your ceilings?
Yes. Most of the industry standard modular recessed light fittings will
integrate easily with our ceiling systems.
How are these light supported?
Either from the ceiling soffit or directly from the ceiling suspension
grid. Please contact our Technical Department for further information.
Can surface mounted lights be fixed directly
to tiles?
We recommend that the weight of all lights is taken by the ceiling suspension
grid and not by the ceiling tile alone.
Site Trimming
Can steel tiles be cut on site?
Yes. Perimeter tiles can be cut using snips or shears and circular holes
can be made for sprinkler heads, smoke detectors etc.
Specials
Are special metal sections available?
Yes. Special one-off perimeter sections, bulkheads, up-stands etc., can
be fabricated in our workshops.
Do you have systems suitable for specific environments?
Yes. Standard systems are available suitable for external canopies, swimming
pools, operating theatres, clean rooms, kitchens, security installations
as well as for use as ventilated ceilings.
